Google Announces Launch of Partner Portal for Google Apps

Published: January 15, 2009

With throngs of companies realizing the benefits of moving their most critical business applications to the Cloud, Google has the launch of a new partner portal geared towards opening sales of its Google Apps Premier Edition software to solution providers. Google’s robust solution set is taking aim at Microsoft’s Office packaged suite. Operating under the Software-as-a-Service model, Google is able to provide this set of solutions at a fraction of the cost of Microsoft.

In an interview with Channelweb.com, Stephen Cho, Director of Google Apps Channels, spoke candidly when asked how Google’s solutions compared to Microsoft.

“We believe that we have strong and stronger products in the marketplace around SaaS and a channel program that will compare favorably with any of the other programs that exist in the market… Our objective is to serve customers and build the greatest products to serve customers in the marketplace. We will continue to do that aggressively… We look at 2009 as the year that the business is really poised to accelerate. And in order to meet the customer demand around the world we expect — millions of new business users — it is essential for us to work with partners around the world.”

Are end users too entrenched with Microsoft solutions, or will positioning comparable (and it some cases, more robust) solutions allow Google to steal a large chunk of the market? We’d love to hear what you think.
